This is achieved by propelling ‘shot’ in a controlled manner onto the surface of the product. Today it is normal to complete this operation by passing the product through purpose built units fitted with nozzles to propel the shot at the required angle onto the surface of the product. ‘Spent shot’ or excess shot is contained within the shot blasting unit.
Shot can be either short pieces of cut wire or globules of iron that have been manufactured for the task.
It should be noted that steel after shot blasting is very susceptible to renewed corrosion. To prevent corrosion the surface can be coated with paint or a suitable oil.
Dyfed Steels Midlands can arrange to have your steel requirement shot blasted.
