Killed Steel.
Steel that has been completely deoxidized by the addition of manganese, silicon, and sometimes aluminium, before casting, so that there is practically no evolution of gas during solidification, and sound ingots are obtained. The shrinkage cavity or pipe is limited to the upper portion of the ingot or in the feeder-head with which ingots are usually provided.
